Although he has portrayed many divisive and charming characters over the years fans were lucky enough to witness his true character in M-Net's hotly contested “SURVIVOR” Maldives Celebs vs. Plebs which he won in 2011, making him one of SA's most celebrated stars. His strategy was Mathew 10 v. 16, "Be as wise as a serpent and innocent and righteous as a dove." His strength, passion and determination to overcome his own difficulties made it possible for him to persevere and become the Ultimate Survivor.
Born and raised in Pretoria, Hykie matriculated in 1996, and completed a drama degree at the University of Stellenbosch. Having enjoyed the stage and the richness of Shakespeare, he received the PANSA Award for Harry Kalmer's stage production “Madiba Street”. In between acting shows he presented the game show “Om-i-Wereld” and also hosted the thirteen part documentary “Wie Le Waar”. In 2013 he featured in three highly successful big screen productions. He played the selfish and shrewd businessman Meyer in the highly applauded “Klein Karoo”, the quiet yet soft and sincere pastor Gerhard in “Lien se Lankstaan Skoene” and Tommy the BUCO kid of “Pretville”. Forthcoming attractions for 2015 are the big screen movies “Forsaken”, “Rowwe Diamante”, “Ek is Anna”, the latest romantic comedy “Mooirivier” as well as “Verskietende Ster” directed by the Oscar nominated, Darryl Roodt. He will also be seen as Sergeant Vorster in John Irvin's big screen production “Mandela’s Gun” later in 2015.
